Roentgen
The roentgen measures exposure, the ionisation X-rays or gamma rays produce in air, not the dose absorbed by a body: 1 R = 2.58 × 10⁻⁴ C/kg. In soft tissue one roentgen of exposure deposits close to one rad (0.01 Gy), which is why old survey meters reading in mR/h are read as if they showed dose rate. The unit is not part of the SI and is now used mainly for legacy instruments.
